Black Lives Matter.
Black American Music Matters.
Through June 19, all album sales will be donated to the NCCU Jazz Studies.
North Carolina Central University is an HBCU that I attended for graduate school. Historically Black Colleges and Universities play a vital role in the musical traditions I owe my career to, and they also have been at the forefront of the fight for justice and equality. Unfortunately, they receive a fraction of the funding that many other institutions do. The NCCU Jazz Studies program, headed by Dr. Ira Wiggins, has overcome these challenges to superbly represent this music on the national and global stage.
I have benefitted enormously from this program and the music tradition it represents. This is only a small step in giving back. If you'd like to support NCCU Jazz Studies, click the link below, and select "Jazz Curriculum Scholarship." Black Lives Matter. Black American Music Matters.
